Why a song a day?

Honestly I'm pretty sure it is impossible to write, record and upload a song a day. Some days life will intervene. Travel. Illness. General lameness and malaise. Desire to do something else. It really doesn't matter. In fact it's more or less besides the point whether I actually post a song every day. What matters is the I intend to do it. Kind of like exercise... if you aim for seven days a week, you might actually get in four. Which is pretty damn good for most of us.
So why bother to set an unattainable intention? Partly, just to see what happens. Maybe in a year I'll write 200 dongs. Maybe six of them will be worth recording for real and putting out a demo. Maybe 12 of them will be okay. Maybe the songs I write towards the end of the year will be much "better" than the ones I write early on. In that case, at the very least, I will have learned something.
The biggest thing, though, is commitment. If I claim to be a songwriter, I need to commit to my art. And my craft. I need to practice, to come to work each day. To make that happen, it is good to have a project that encompasses a goal. This website is that project, and a song a day is that goal.
